Philosopher's Path

Cherry blossom trees along the canal

Since I had used a lot of film in Gion, I stopped at Mutsumidō in Kawaramachi Sanjo on the way, bought some Velvia, and headed to Nanzenji in Higashiyama. Before entering Nanzenji Temple, I stopped by the Philosopher's Path.It was originally named as a walking route for philosopher Kitaro Nishida and others, but it has now become a walking route for tourists and a date route for young Kansai people.

 Nanzenji Temple

Weeping cherry blossoms in the parking

At Nanzenji Temple, I was surprised by the large cherry blossoms on the approach to the shrine. A large weeping cherry tree stands in the middle of the parking lot.

I took photos of this cherry blossom from various angles, including front light and back light. My camera's viewfinder isn't clear, so I wish I had an α-9 when trying to take elaborate shots. Also, reversal film requires severe exposure.Even if I think the composition is good, sometimes it's underexposed and the colors don't come out, so it doesn't turn out very well.

here are cherry blossoms clustered around the Sanmon gate in the Nanzenji temple grounds, and I took many pictures with the temple grounds in the background. I gave up on taking a full view of the Sanmon Gate because it was too big, and instead I tried taking pictures of the Sanmon Gate as if it were a picture frame. This Sanmon gate is the place where Goemon Ishikawa delivers his famous line in Kabuki, "Is it a spectacular view? Is it a spectacular view?".However, it was burnt down in Goemon's time, and it seems that Goemon never actually climbed it.

At Nanzenji, the canal arch that leads to the Keage is a place that I really like because it has a scenery that doesn't seem to be in Japan. The weeds and moss that cling to Suirokaku give it a timeless appearance.
