Italy 6th day

View of Duomo from the front of the hotel

We've come to the halfway point of trip. I drank too much alcohol every day and my left back tooth hurt. Our hotel in Florence was Sofitel. It was a very convenient location, just a few minutes walk from the Duomo. But in front of the hotel is the brand shop street Tornavoni, where the men can't relax. The main stores of Gucci and Ferragamo are on this street.

Piazza della Signoria Arno River and Ponte Vecchio seen from the Uffizi Gallery

We went sightseeing on foot to Piazza della Signoria in the morning. This square with a replica of the statue of David is in the center of Florence's old town, and the Uffizi Gallery is between this square and the river Arno.

 Uffizi Gallery
The start of sightseeing in Florence was from this museum filled with works of art collected by the Medici family. The 3rd floor was the main exhibition hall and we climbed the stairs, but the height of the floors was so high that I thought the 3rd floor was a joke. Photography was prohibited in the gallery, but I'm glad I could concentrate on the works of art.Photos could be seen in the pamphlet.

 Botticelli's room

Spring (Primavera)
The Birth of Venus

"Spring" was wonderful. It was a large painting with a delicate and beautiful expression, and the flowers were also detailed and beautiful. "The Birth of Venus" was also beautiful with a much larger picture than I had expected. The painting uses a hemp campus, and when I look closely, I noticed for the first time that there was a thin line in the center and the painting was divided into upper and lower parts. (These photos were taken in 2014-photographing was permitted at museums throughout Italy from June 2014)

 Leonardo da Vinci's room
The conception notice is his masterpiece. In addition, there was unfinished "Sages of the East". There was also a painting in which the teacher was surprised at the wonderfulness of his disciple Leonardo da Vinci's addition and broke his own brush. There was a special exhibition of architecture, human body (anatomical) drawings, machines (wing models, compasses, etc.) on the second floor. I was surprised not only by the painter but also by his various talents.

Holy family

Besides, the painting of Maria of Filippo Lippi was very beautiful. I thought it was comparable to Botticelli's painting. The Holy Family painted on Michelangelo's round canvas also attracted many people. I bought a pamphlet for the Uffizi Gallery, so I'd like to take a look back at it later.

 Cathedral (Duomo)
We lined up for about 10 minutes and entered the Duomo in Florence. The appearance including the façade was splendid. A fresco with a large area of 4000 square meters was drawn on the ceiling of the cupola, which was a must-see. ~ When I climbed the cupola, I could see it well nearby. I saw a child lighting a candle, so I snapped a photo.

 Pisa

It's very hot! The white building looked very beautiful against the blue sky in fine weather. There were a tremendous number of souvenir shops, sold by Africans. (It seems to be a Pisa specialty)

 Leaning Tower of Pisa
It is really tilted by about 5 degrees. There were people climbing, but it seemed dangerous when viewed from below. There was a signboard that the grassland was off limits, but people gradually entered. They took a commemorative photo with a pose to support the Leaning Tower of Pisa or a pose to push down the Leaning Tower. It was interesting that people from all countries took pictures in the same pose, which is unique to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

 Cathedral of Pisa (Duomo)
The lattice pattern on the ceiling was gorgeous and distinctive, comparable to the folding ceilings of Japanese shrines and temples. The appearance of the chalk marble was very shining in the blue sky.

 Baptistery
Half of the dome-shaped roof is tiled and half is a lead plate. The internal sound effects are very nice here, and the staff sang the echoed a cappella.
My family bought souvenirs such as skipping rope, emblems, and drums at a discount from Africans.(Why did they choose that souvenir? ...)

Florence's old town at twilight seen from Piazzale Michelangelo

We returned from Pisa to Florence, dressed up and headed out for a Tuscan dinner at Villa Cora.
On the way to Villa Cora, we took a commemorative photo at Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking the city of Florence. The old town of Florence at twilight was beautiful.

 Tuscan supper
After arriving at Villa Cora, we drank Mimosa's apéritif in the waiting hall and saw a photo book when the Japanese imperial family visited. After that, we had a dinner in a room dedicated to the group. The waiters came to pour more and more alcohol, so I drank too much.
It seemed that the dinner here will finish on the tour after October, and it seemed that it was the last chance as well as the mouth of truth. The food and liquor of Villa Cora was delicious. After returning to the hotel, I stopped walking around Florence and going to Groom (gelato), which I was thinking of going if I was fine.
